About
We work in the gaps
The Psychotherapy Associates of Oregon is a group practice based in Tigard and working across the whole state.
We take on the things a general practice refers elsewhere. Process addictions. Life after a brain injury or a stroke. Couples after betrayal. Clinical supervision for other clinicians. Those four are not a list of everything we do, they are the reason people drive past closer options to get here.

Why the practice exists
To offer the care this community cannot easily find elsewhere, and to build a practice that sustains the people who provide it.
The second half of that is deliberate. A practice that ignores the people delivering the care will not last long enough to deliver it. Growing carefully, and paying the people who do the work properly, is part of the plan rather than a consequence of it.
How we work
We start by understanding. Nobody is told what to do. Not in the first session, not ever. The work goes into understanding what is actually being managed, which is slower at the start and is the reason any of it holds.
That is not a philosophy we picked. It is what clients tell us when they are asked why they stayed. One of them put it better than we can: “You truly listen to me, and you provide me with input. You also don’t let me just run my mouth for an hour.”
Nothing is hidden. Our fees are on this website. So are the insurers we bill, the hours we keep, and the names and credentials of every clinician here. Almost nobody else in this category publishes all four, and the reason we do is that being told the price on the phone, after you have got your hopes up, is a bad way to start.
It is about fit. There are a lot of counselors in this area, and most of them are good at what they do. We are not trying to be a better version of a general practice. We are trying to be the right practice for a narrower set of people, and to say clearly enough who that is that the wrong ones do not waste a consultation finding out.

What we work with
- Gambling and other process addictions. Gambling, gaming, pornography, shopping. Named separately, because grouping them is a way of not saying them. The practice is led by a clinician who holds the CGAC II credential, which very few clinicians in Oregon carry.
- Brain injury, stroke and life after a diagnosis. The emotional and relational part, which medical treatment is not built to hold. For the person and for the family around them.
- Couples, including after an affair. Gottman-informed, even-handed, and specific about the fact that betrayal recovery is a method rather than a conversation.
- Trauma, including EMDR and moral injury.
- Substance use, as psychotherapy that fits alongside a life.
- Anxiety, depression and grief, which is the largest share of what we do and the least exotic thing on this list.
- Clinical supervision and consultation for other clinicians, which is one of the three things this practice is genuinely best at.

Where we see clients

By secure video anywhere in Oregon, which is most of how the specialist work happens, because the people who need a certified gambling counselor or a clinician who understands stroke recovery are not all within driving distance of Washington County.
