Fees and Insurance

What therapy costs here, and what your insurance covers

Our fees are on this page because being told the price on the phone, after you have got your hopes up, is a bad way to start.

The first consultation is free and it is fifty-five minutes. Nothing below applies to it.

Out-of-network and self-pay rates

SessionLicensed clinicianPre-licensed associate
Individual, 55 minutes$205$180
Couple$230$205
Family$245$210

Services provided by licensed professionals include a range of psychotherapy services.

Services provided by pre-licensed registered associates, supervised by David Corse, LPC, CADC III, CGAC II, or by an outside supervisor where the associate’s license requires one, ensuring access to quality psychotherapy services for clients. The lower rate reflects the supervision, not the standard of care: their work is reviewed weekly by the clinician with the most experience in the practice, which is a thing you are getting rather than a thing you are giving up.

There is no sliding scale. We would rather say that here than in a phone call.

Cancellations. More than 24 hours notice costs nothing. Less than 24 hours, or a missed appointment, is $100.

Insurance we bill

In network now, licensed clinicians
  • Kaiser
  • PacificSource
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • United Healthcare and Optum
  • Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield

Medicare: Noridian, which is Open Card Medicare in Oregon. Plus Medicare Advantage plans from Aetna, United Healthcare and Optum, PacificSource and Kaiser.

If you carry a Medicare Advantage plan from any other carrier, we are out of network with it. Tell us which plan you have and we will check before you book.

For the Oregon Health Plan we can bill Open Card, but not the coordinated care organizations, and most OHP members are enrolled with a CCO rather than Open Card.

Questions people ask

Does Kaiser cover therapy at an outside practice?

Yes, for Kaiser members whose plan includes outside behavioral health providers. We are in network with Kaiser, so if yours does, you would pay a copay rather than our full rate. Ring your plan or ring us and we will check with you.

Does Aetna cover therapy?

We are in network with Aetna, and Aetna is the one plan every clinician here can bill. Your copay depends on your specific plan.

Does Cigna cover couples counseling?

Sometimes, and it depends on how the sessions are coded and on the plan. Couples work is frequently not covered by any insurer, because insurance pays for the treatment of a diagnosed condition in one person. We will tell you what your plan will and will not do before your first session, not after.

Does Medicare cover counseling?

Yes. We bill Medicare Open Card, and we are in network with a number of Medicare Advantage plans. If you carry an Advantage plan, tell us which one before you book, because Advantage networks are narrower than Open Card and we would rather check it than have you find out on an invoice.

What if you are not in network with my plan?

You can see us at the self-pay rates above, and we can give you a superbill. That is an itemized receipt with the codes your insurer needs, which you submit yourself for out-of-network reimbursement. How much comes back depends on your plan’s out-of-network benefit, and some plans have none. Ask your insurer what percentage of an out-of-network mental health session they reimburse, and what your out-of-network deductible is.

Do you take the Oregon Health Plan?

Open Card only. We are not contracted with any of the coordinated care organizations, and most members are enrolled with a CCO rather than Open Card, so for most people the answer is no. Tell us what your card says and we will check it with you.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Federal law gives anyone paying without insurance the right to a written estimate of what care will cost. If you are self-pay, we will give you one before you start, in writing, covering the expected cost of your care with us. You are entitled to it whether or not you ask.

How do I pay?

Card on file, charged after each session. Fees are the same for in-person and video sessions.

What if I need to cancel?

Give us more than 24 hours and there is no charge. Less than that, or a missed appointment with no notice, is $100. Insurance does not cover a late cancellation, so that one is yours.

What the money actually buys

Fifty-five minutes with a clinician who has been doing this for a long time, in a practice small enough that the person who answers the phone knows who you are.

It also buys availability. Nine to seven Monday to Thursday, nine to six Friday to Sunday, which is unusual and which is often the actual reason somebody chooses a private practice over a program.

Start with the free consultation

Nothing on this page applies to it. Fifty-five minutes, no cost, no card, no obligation. By the end you will know whether this is a fit and roughly what it would cost you.
